dialogue push vow in Bahrain

Gulf Daily News - 17 August, 2012

A renewed push for dialogue with all Bahrain's political societies was vowed yesterday. Talks with the societies, including Al Asala, National Unity Assembly, Al Wefaq National Islamic, Al Minbar National Islamic, National Democratic Action (WAAD), the Arab Islamic Democratic Class, Muslim League, the National Democratic Rally, the Islamic Shura, Al Minbar Progressive Democratic, the National Action Charter, Free Thought, Justice and Development and Will and Change, will continue after Eid, said Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa.

Bahrain is keen to step up implementation of the consensus that emerged from the National Dialogue, which has launched a new chapter of reform and development, he pointed out. The kingdom will also continue its march for comprehensive development and implementation of the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), he said.

Shaikh Khalid hailed the government's initiatives in this regard. "Everyone's commitment to accountability, based on objective and impartial reading of the BICI's recommendations, should form the basis on which national responsibility rests on all relevant parties," the minister said.

It reflects their commitment to seriously contribute to strengthening trust and reconciliation, and pushing forward common understanding in political action.

He urged political societies to actively participate in creating a positive atmosphere in support of development and progress of political action.

The minister said that the principle of consensus was fundamental in His Majesty King Hamad's address to the nation on the occasion of the last 10 days of Ramadan. The address had stressed dialogue and consensus as the base for historical joint national action.

The minister called on everyone to reject violence.

"Homeland security, stability and safety of citizens and residents have its sanctity at all times.

"Resorting to violence and vandalism as a means of imposing a political agenda cannot be the rational approach to reform and development," he said.

The minister stressed the need to respect the judiciary and its decisions.
