Aid ordered for Syrian refugees

Gulf Daily News - 14 August, 2012

The Cabinet yesterday decided to provide humanitarian and rescue aid worth $ 2 million (BD5,304,688) from the Bahrain Committee for Humanitarian Aid's account for Syrian refugees who fled their country due to the exacerbating situation there.

The account is consigned by Royal Charity Organisation.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa congratulated His Majesty King Hamad and the people on the advent of Eid Al Fitr.

He chaired the weekly session in Gudaibiya Palace and reviewed a report by Housing Minister Basem Al Hamer. It revealed 6,000 homes are being built for which the government has allocated BD60m, in addition to BD50m for loans which benefited 4,500 citizens.

He asked officials to divide projects among contractors and Bahraini firms to ensure homes are completed on time.

He instructed the five governorates to co-ordinate with the General Directorate of Traffic to ensure heavy vehicles, trucks and public buses park in the spaces allocated for them.

The Cabinet approved a bill for non-governmental organisations (NGOs), stipulating that they should not be set up on doctrinal or sectarian basis or attain goals which contravene the Constitution.

The draft law also stipulates that only courts can dissolve NGOs.

The session gave the green light for Bahrain to host International Civil Aviation Organisation and approved parliamentary proposals to re-build Omar Ibn Al Khattab School in Muharraq and upgrade curriculum.
