Youths attack newspaper photographer

Gulf Daily News - 11 August, 2012

A photographer working for Arabic newspaper Al Watan was threatened and attacked by some Bahraini youths while he was taking photographs of animal carcasses being dumped in Salmabad.

The attack on Anwar Moideen happened after he had taken photos of carcasses that were thrown on an empty plot of land.

Mr Moideen said he was approached by three youths who told him he was causing them trouble.

"They told me to stop taking such pictures and threatened me with dire consequences if I did not," Mr Moideen told the GDN. "They then demanded I delete the pictures and hand over the camera's memory card.

"I first thought I should fight it out but then realised they might harm me so I agreed.

"Some of them then entered my car and tried to take away my camera. Then I resisted but they grabbed me and started beating me with iron rods and sticks."

He said he started shouting at which the youths ran away. Mr Moideen suffered injuries to his scalp and face and required stitches.
