19 traffic lights removed to ease traffic congestion in Jeddah

Saudi Gazette - 08 August, 2012

Nineteen traffic lights have been removed from Jeddah’s roads over the past few days in a move aiming to ease traffic congestion, said Brig. Muhammad Al-Qahtani, director of Jeddah Administration.

According to Al-Qahtani, Prince Majed Road is going to see sweeping changes after the current project at Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Road is finished. Traffic lights linking Prince Majed Road with Al-Thaqar and Bakhashab traffic light will be removed as well.

“Traffic movement between Shabk Al-Matar north and the intersection of Old Makkah Highway will be smoother and there will be no traffic lights except for one at the intersection of the Old Makkah-Jeddah Highway,” he said.

“Traffic on Palestine St. has improved since the traffic lights of Al-Makrauna, Al-Arbaeen and Al-Sahafa streets were removed, said Al-Qahtani while adding that more plans will be designed to improve traffic flow in the city.

“Currently, we’re working on dealing with the problem of traffic congestion at Al-Haramain Road.”

The city’s road projects are being implemented under the auspices of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, and supervision of Prince Mishal Bin Majed, Jeddah Governor.
