Witnesses set to testify in attack case

Gulf Daily News - 07 August, 2012

More defence witnesses will testify in the appeal of 18 men jailed for seven years each for blockading roads near Bahrain Financial Harbour and attacking policemen.

The men were convicted of blocking roads, attacking policemen and inciting hatred against the regime by the National Safety Court last December.

However, they claim they were blindfolded while signing their confessions and mistreated in custody.

Twenty defence witnesses earlier took to the stand at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which adjourned the case until September 16.

Earlier video footage and photographs showing damage caused by protesters outside the harbour in March last year were screened in court.

Lawyers argued none of the defendants were seen in the video footage or pictures.
