Students win grant for key community project

Gulf Daily News - 06 August, 2012

A group of Bahrain University students received a grant for their project, Ambulance, from Coca-Cola Foundation's Ripples of Happiness programme.

The programme, in partnership with inJAz Al Arab and inJAz Bahrain, took place across universities in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine and aimed to train youths on identifying opportunities in their countries and to implement projects, which have a positive impact within their communities.

The winning project aims to increase awareness on common chronic diseases in Bahrain and how to deal with each one of them.

The students also created special cards, which would be carried by patients. These will highlight their conditions and key steps to be taken when they suffer an attack.

Meanwhile, Royal University of Women students were awarded for their project, Bab Al Khair.

inJAz Bahrain executive director Shaikha Hessa Bint Khalifa Al Khalifa said such initiatives aimed to encourage youth to engage socially and take the lead in inducing social change in their communities.

"Today our youth have shown success in responding to social needs facing their society and actually contributed and gave back to their communities."
