Saudi King unites Muslim Ummah: Ihsanoglu

Saudi Gazette - 03 August, 2012

No Muslim leader can unite the Muslim nation like King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, said Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during an Okaz Forum held recently and attended by members from the Shoura Council, Syrian National Council, representatives of the Muslim Rohingya of Burma and several political experts.

He also said that the exceptional Muslim summit which King Abdullah called for in Makkah came at the right time. “The Muslim world has been waiting for the Monarch to take this initiative.”

“Even those who don’t see eye to eye with King Abdullah in terms of opinion and policies have agreed that the Monarch possesses a long-term history that transcends all political differences and he is a strong symbol of Islam,” Ihsanoglu added.

“When he was the Crown Prince in 2005, King Abdullah called for an exceptional summit, a summit which proved to be historical in the full sense of the word as it had designed a new way for Islamic work called Islamic cooperation.”

The Islamic solidarity summit, which will be held on Aug. 14, is expected to make a decisive stance regarding the massacres going on in Syria. The cause of the Muslim Rohingya in Myanmar will be on the top priority of the summit’s agenda.

Ihsanoglu also talked in detail about the OIC and its different projects on the national and regional levels in conjunction with humanitarian and aid organizations.
