Blood donation drive held at Lifeline Hospital Sohar

Oman Daily Observer - 01 August, 2012

Lifeline Hospital Sohar on Wednesday conducted a blood donation drive at the hospital premises.

The campaign received an overwhelming response from both the general public and Lifeline employees. People arrived in droves to support this worthy cause and sat patiently even past midnight awaiting their turns to donate blood. Blood donation is a noble act and any healthy adult between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood.

We have about 5 – 6 litres of blood in our bodies and approximately 450 ml is collected within 10 to 15 minutes from a donor. Blood is checked from each candidate prior to donation to ensure that it is free of infections such as HIV. In patients who are prone to iron overload, blood donation prevents its accumulation in toxic quantities and is, therefore, beneficial to their health.

'Regular blood donation programs will be conducted at all branches of Lifeline Hospital in its efforts to support the efforts of Ministry of Health in maintaining continuous availability of blood,' said Dr Rohil Raghaven, the Hospital Director.
