Sharjah Police have started a new campaign to educate society members about the consequences of the negative phenomenon of begging that flourishes during the holy month of Ramadan. The campaign is part of the Ministry of Interior initiative to control begging.

Sharjah Police are urging people to cooperate with the police and report presence of beggars on toll-free Nageed number 800151, toll-free number of the Department of Naturlisation and Residency 80080, and toll-free number for the Central Operations Room 999. Many arrested beggars were found using tricks to gain the sympathy of people.

They were either sitting in front of mosques, public parks, shopping centres, and shops while many were arrested knocking on the doors of houses and apartments.

People are urged not to give money to beggars as they are considered illegals doing illegal activity and many are involved in crimes like robberies.

The campaign features distribution of guidance leaflets in both Arabic and English languages urging citizens and residents not to fall prey to beggars.
