Accidents, drugs kill

Oman Daily Observer - 30 July, 2012

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said that 21 people died in 61 accidents on the roads of the Sultanate last week. The accidents included 25 collisions among vehicles, 16 involving crashing into stationary objects, 10 cases of pedestrian overrunning and ten accidents of vehicles toppling.
The ROP warned against the self-inflicted wounds and deaths caused by rash motorists who neither respect traffic laws, nor care for their own safety or the safety of others while on the road.
Another killer being fought by the ROP is the misuse of drugs. The ROP is conducting regular operations to prevent the smuggling of narcotics and psychotropic substances. It is also organising raids on drug addicts hives. A woman from a Latin American state was recently ambushed at Muscat International Airport as she tried to smuggle 79 capsules of cocaine into the Sultanate.
