Tehran denies presence of Iranian forces in Syria

Kuwait News Agency - 26 July, 2012

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi rejected Wednesday foreign reports claiming that there Iranian military forces stationed in Syria.

He billed such reports as a foreign media propaganda to cover up the presence of foreign terrorists in Syria, Iran's official news agency, IRNA, reported. He added reports show that the Syrian army has been successful in countering terrorist operations.

Vahidi reiterated his country's position regarding dialogue as the best solution to the Syrian crisis.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said that the current situation in Syria is becoming quite and there is no power vacuum.

He added the best way out of the Syrian crisis is to reach a mutual understanding between the government and opposition groups. Salehi said Tehran has been in contact with Syrian opposition groups for 12 months voicing its readiness to host negotiations between the two sides.
