Police have launched an investigation after a man was found lying in the street covered in blood.

Jarmeet Singh, 32, from India, is believed to have been assaulted by colleagues at his labour accommodation on Saturday night.

He was recovering in hospital yesterday, but the details surrounding the incident were still unclear.

A friend told the GDN he was heavily medicated and had only been able to tell police that he was attacked by co-workers.

"He was attacked by his colleagues at a labour accommodation in Salmaniya, but police found him lying on Shaikh Mohammed Avenue covered in blood," an Interior Ministry source confirmed.

"An ambulance arrived and took him to hospital, where he is now being treated for injuries.

"He told policemen that he was injured when his colleagues attacked him with a sharp object, but his injuries are not life-threatening."

Mr Singh managed to escape his attackers but collapsed in the street after losing blood, added his friend on condition of anonymity.

"He ran from the accommodation, but fell on the road due to his injuries," he said."Police found him lying unconscious and took him to hospital.

"They launched an investigation after taking his statement.

"He is fine now but still on medication, so he cannot talk much about the incident.

"We don't know the reason why he was attacked and will ask him once he has fully recovered."

It is understood Mr Singh had an argument with a colleague, but it turned into a brawl after he asked others to intervene.

He is said to work for Shuja Construction Company, but the firm could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Indian Embassy officials said they were aware of the case and expected to visit him today.
