'Tajahaz' summer programme launched for Qatari students

Gulf Times - 12 July, 2012

Qatar Shell has launched the first “Tajahaz” summer programme involving several top performing Qatari high school students. The programme will run throughout the month.

Tajahaz, which means “be prepared” in Arabic, is a specially designed summer programme aimed at helping “highly competent young Qataris” in their transition into university studies as well as future careers.

The launch ceremony was hosted by Mark Wojcik, Qatar Shell vice president (HR); Stewart Graham, Qatar Shell manager (learning); Ibrahim al- Mannai, Qatar Shell head of Qatarisation; and Youssif Saleh, general manager Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre.

It was attended by students, parents and Shell staff who are instructors for the programme.

Wojcik said: “Qatar Shell is very proud to launch this Tajahaz initiative, which aligns with the Strategic Qatarisation Plan initiated by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and is part of Shell’s Qatarisation programme in support of the human and economic development pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Al-Mannai said: “Tajahaz aims to give Qatari students a taste of working in the oil and gas industry and bridge the knowledge, skills and understanding gained in the classroom with more life related experience.

“Tajahaz combines different learning techniques that emphasise the skills needed to undertake self-based studies as well as learning in a team environment, both of which are critical for success at university and thereafter in the workplace. Various exercises and challenges will be given to the students to let them practice the skills whilst receiving ongoing coaching from the Shell instructors.

This will help provide students with the necessary skills to succeed in their university studies and later in their chosen
career.”
