QatarDebate team takes part in World Schools Debate Academy

Representing Qatar and the only team from a Middle Eastern country, the QatarDebate has successfully participated in the Fourth World Schools Debate Academy held in Slovenia.

QatarDebate Centre representing two teams participated in the tournament associated with the Academy, amidst some other 22 teams from different countries.

During the tournament, QatarDebate’s first team was placed seventh at the level of participating teams in the World Schools Debate Academy.

Doha College student Nora al-Naimi won the tenth position in the tournament’s best speakers’ list.

The QatarDebate centre aims through its participation at the Academy to strengthen the participating students’ debating skills.

Many educational institutions, global academics, and a group of countries that have a long history with the art of debate took part in the Academy.

The following students represented QatarDebate Centre at the Academy: Saad al-Suwaidi, from Qatar Leadership Academy, Nora al-Naimi (Doha Collage), Khalid al-Jaber (Omar Bin Al Khattab School), Abdul Rahman al-Mulla (Al Jazeera Academy), Sheikha Abdel Hakim (Al Resala School) and Al Ghalia al-Kubaisi (Cambridge School).

QatarDebate Centre delegation included Arabic Programmes head Dr Abed al-Sameai, Events specialist Qomasha al-Jabor, Communication co-ordinator Khalid al-Ibrahim and English Debate coach Anna Kerr.

Dr al-Sameai explained that the Academy, which lasted for eight days focused on students training of techniques and principles of debates as well as the development of arguments in addition to other basic tips for debates.
