MoI detains 138 infiltrators

Gulf Today - 10 July, 2012

The UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) has detained 138 infiltrators and other offenders in the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Ajman last week, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police (GCAD) said.

The detained persons included 108 Asian and African men and women from Abu Dhabi and 30 from Ajman, it said.

The Abu Dhabi Department to follow up offending foreigners, in co-operation with the Department of Strategy for the Prevention of Crime at the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, raided the hideouts of the illegal foreigners at Mussafah area in Abu Dhabi on a tip-off and nabbed 108 sexual offenders from Asian and African countries, a dispatch from the police said.

In the meantime, based on information received from the General Headquarters of Ajman Police and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs, the department raided and captured 30 violators of residency regulations in Ajman.

The captured illegal residents included 28 female domestic workers and two fugitive runaways, the police said. The concerned department is taking legal action against them, it added.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior and Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalisation and Residence and Ports Maj-Gen Nasser Al Awadi Menhali said that this campaign by the federal and state level departments comes under the framework of the efforts made by the department to follow up offenders and foreign nationals to reduce the number of intruders and violators of residency laws in the country.

He said that the campaign inspections, which are currently being implemented, will continue and intensify in different regions and districts at the state level.

He also lauded the efforts of the officials at all levels for the success of the campaign and added that these efforts will half book all offenders and bring them to justice.

Al Menhali called on all members of the society — citizens and residents — to report any such violations and to not cover up the offenders and bring them and those harbouring offenders to justice because they are a threat to the security and safety of the community.
