The killers of an Indian baker who was found dead inside a bakery in Jeddah two weeks ago reenacted their crime before police officials.

They showed investigators how they broke into the bakery and robbed the place clean and escaped. The five murderers who are of different nationalities admitted their crime to the investigation team and said they had put a plan to rob the place and kept watching it for few days before they committed the crime.

They had watched the bakery for days and kept a close eye on the Indian baker’s movement. When he entered the bakery at dawn, the murderers pushed him inside, tied his hands and put tape on his mouth. They choked him until he died. The killers broke the safe open and took around SR37,000 inside. They also stole cell phone calling cards and packets of cigarettes from the store.

A citizen found the Indian baker lying dead on the floor of the store with his hands tied and mouth taped. He called the police immediately. Fingerprints were lifted from the crime scene. Forensic examinations showed that the victim was strangled from behind and his frail body had abrasions all over. There were also signs that he tried to resist the killers.
Investigators could see from the outset that there was more than one killer involved in the crime. In a matter of a few hours, they could pinpoint a Chadian youth in the neighborhood who had purchased an expensive cell phone. He was also boasting to his friends how he, with his strength, could beat up an old man. Police got suspicious about his actions and put a close eye on him. Later, he was seen with a Saudi young man, a Yemeni and an Eritrean. Police arrested them all and during investigations they admitted the crime.

The Indian baker has been working in the Kingdom for 20 years baking bread for schools. He has four daughters and a son.

First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman for Jeddah police, said all the suspects were aged less than 24 years old. He urged owners of businesses to install surveillance cameras and electronic doors and to take other precautionary measures to prevent burglary.
