MoI holds anti-drug awareness seminar

The Peninsula - 02 July, 2012

The Permanent Committee for Alcohol and Drug Affairs (PCDAA) organised a seminar on ‘Happy Life’ as part of its activities to mark World Anti-Drug Day. The activities are held with the motto “Your Health is Your Life”.

Faculty member at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud University in KSA Dr Tariq Al Hawass, consultant psychiatric and member of the PCDAA Dr Mohammed Abdul Aleem, social consultant at Social Rehabilitation Centre (Al Owain) Dr Ibrahim Atiya addressed the seminar.

The seminar held at the auditorium of Criminal Investigation Department was attended by the director of Police Training Institute Brig Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Mahanna, Director Drug Enforcement Administration Brig Ibrahim Eissa Al Buainain, Secretary of the PCDAA Maj Ibrahim Mohammed Al Sameeh attended the seminar.

The seminar addressed several important points about the drug problem in the communities and the risks and the damages they cause, how to overcome them, how to protect young people through religious and morals values, raising awareness among different segments of society and to clarify the correct meaning of happiness.

Dr Mohamed Abdel Aleem said that a good life lies in the physical integrity and keeping away from the diseases that materialise with the use of drugs. It creates one of the most serious health, social and psychological problems and leads to the weakness of society as it create tension in family and lead to outbreaks of crime and negative habits in society and lack of respect for the law.

Dr Tariq Al Hawass said that God Almighty has referred to the meaning of good life in the verse of Quran (Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life). He also said that it lies in the integrity of body from physical diseases and purity of soul from impurities combined with tranquillity of minds and self purification.

Dr Ibrahim Attia pointed out that the wrong ways of life lead to human misery as false concepts always lead to erroneous results. He also noted that good planning of life leads to happiness and that happiness is not without faith in God.
