Prince Naif’s efforts resulted in an overall renaissance in security and contributed to strengthening stability in Saudi Arabia.

The Civil Defense, Border Guards, Public Security directorate, Investigations and Prisons directorate, the Special Forces, Passports Department, Security Forces and the Anti-Narcotics Department were all developed and improved.

The prince tackled internal security dossiers based on a partnership between citizens and security bodies and handled terrorism cases based on intelligence along with force.
In 2007, he approved the foundation of an Intellectual Security Department within the Interior Ministry. In 2008 and 2009 he approved funding for the Prince Naif Chair for Intellectual Security Studies at King Saud University — which in 2010 was assigned to put in place strategic plans for Arab intellectual security — and the Prince Naif Chair for National Unity at Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University. He supported dozens of studies and research on extremism and related issues.

Munasaha program

Under Prince Naif’s instructions and supervision, the ministry formed the advisory committee of Munasaha (advisory) to correct the erroneous conceptions and interpretations of Islamic principles of those detained in connection with terrorism offenses and direct them toward Islam’s proper principles and teachings that are based on Shariah and the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) teachings. For that purpose, the ministry also established the Prince Muhammad Bin Naif Center for Advisory and Care, which used scholars, sociologists and psychologists, intellectuals and businessmen and made them meet with the detainees. Many detainees changed their previous conceptions and were convinced by those who confronted them in this manner. These cases were published in the media.

In his confrontation of terrorism, the prince was determined to eliminate terrorists, which was manifested in the successive and successful strikes against them. During the international anti-terrorism conference, the prince approved the organization of a weeklong national anti-terrorism campaign in which the education and security sectors together aimed to raise public awareness and combat extremism. Prince Naif’s battle with terrorism was appreciated by his people and the world and that represented a strong blow against the deviant groups. It was a strategy that was a successful experience and was commended globally.

Care for martyrs

Besides financial aid, Prince Naif used to visit and personally offer Eid greetings to the families of those killed while performing their duties. He determined that the care of martyrs’ families had to amount to more than financial aid and sought to mitigate the suffering of affected families.

He said the leadership and the loyal sons of this country would always honor martyrs’ noble sacrifices and exert all efforts to defend the religion and protect the gains and achievements of the country. Under Prince Naif’s directives, the families perform Haj annually on the expense of the Ministry of Interior while sadaqa (charity) are given to the poor on behalf of martyrs.

Combating drugs

Since the foundation of the National Committee for Narcotics Control (NCNC) in 2007, which he headed, Prince Naif sought to develop the organization as he was aware that the problem of narcotics was prevalent all over the world and causing many problems in most countries. The committee comprising several ministries gave a lot of attention to the issue of drug addiction and exchanged expertise and information with Arab, Muslim and friendly countries aiming to protect societies from the hazards of drugs.

The prince personally funded the Prince Naif Chair on Narcotics Prevention in 2009.

The chair is cooperating with the committee by employing research, consultation and training activities to meet the requirements of tackling drugs in society.

At King Abdul Aziz University’s Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz Center for Social and Humanitarian Research, the Narcotics Prevention Unit is considered a pioneer in the field of drug combat and is distinctive in its studies and programs on drug use and dealings.

“We are targeted. Each father, mother and member of a family has to cooperate with the state and relevant authorities to protect the family from this blight,” said Prince Naif in an NCNC meeting in Jeddah in 2010. He called for strong sentences against drug smugglers and dealers and demanded the media spread awareness.

Haj

Prince Naif was the head of the Supreme Haj Committee. The committee’s successes under his stewardship are demonstrated by the efforts the security forces exert every year to take responsibility for the large number of pilgrims who enter border crossing points, gather in a limited area, then leave the country.

Arab efforts

Prince Naif was the honorary chairman of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers. He worked on the Arab pact to combat terrorism that is signed by Arab interior and justice ministers. He also worked to ensure interior ministers are closer to the people and more aware of their problems.

Charity

Prince Naif improved the performance of security officials through continuous training and education. He supervised relief committees, campaigns and the Kingdom’s popular donation-raising programs; supported relief efforts for the Palestinian people; and approved and implemented several humanitarian projects for those affected by war. He also backed projects to support and provide food, medical care and housing to needy families, the disabled and orphans, as well as the building of centers specialized in treating tumors.

On an international level, the prince supported efforts to help the Afghan people, headed the Saudi committee working to provide aid in Kosovo and Chechnya, the tsunami victims' relief committee, the earthquake and flood victims' relief committee and the committee to provide relief to victims of Somalia’s famine.
