E-university hopes to attract 100,000 students in 10 years

Saudi Gazette - 16 June, 2012

The Saudi Electronic University, which is the first-ever government e-university, hopes to attract 100,000 students over the next 10 years, said Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Mousa, the university’s rector.

Designed to substitute off-campus learning provided by Saudi universities, the services it renders will be more flexible in order to adapt to students’ life, work and location conditions, Al-Mousa said. State-of-the-art educational content with the most recent e-education methods will be used and pioneering knowledge will be transferred and localized in association with Saudi and international institutions and faculties.

Al-Mousa told the Saudi Press Agency the university will start to receive admission applications from July 25. Students can enroll in the university’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and Al-Mousa said he expects 6,500 students, over 60 percent of them women, to enroll in the first semester.

He said the university offers studies in three faculties: Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences, Faculty of Computer and Information Technology and Faculty of Health Sciences.

Tuition fees for the Bachelor’s degree program are SR2,000 per semester and SR9,000 per semester for the Master’s degree program.
