Thugs blackmail Kuwait judiciary

Arab Times - 14 June, 2012
Author: Ahmed Al-Jarallah

Until when will the decision-makers surrender to the whims of those lawmakers who have spared no efforts to trample on democracy and intentionally demolish the country’s fortress gradually without any deterrent?
Until when will they continue indulging in malpractices — the malpractices which have impeded government work? Until when will they try to blackmail the judicial system of the country with their oppressive behaviors?
Isn’t it time to deter this ‘militia’ and spoil its methodological uprising against the country and its rule?
Have not these MPs — the so-called majority — unleashed horror by vomiting venom against Kuwait?
Shouldn’t a lawmaker like MP Obaid Al-Wasmi and his colleagues be blamed for what they said when the honest Kuwaiti judiciary issued its verdict acquitting five officers who were involved in an incident at the Diwaniya of Jamaan Al-Harbash?
If Al-Wasmi was interested in the case, we would say his statements were a mere reaction to the verdict. Yet, in this case a number of lawmakers agreed with one voice to doubt the honesty of the judiciary and rebelled against the country. Yes, rejection of the verdict issued by a court is a kind of rebel activity.

All these actions paint a gloomy picture. The question is: What kind of judiciary do the individuals want? Do they want a judiciary that is politicized? A judiciary which is subjected to their will and whims or are they looking for a neutral, honest and fair judiciary that restores the rights of each person?
Indisputably, the Kuwaiti judiciary is not subject to any kind of blackmail. Moreover, it has not been provoked by political currents. It does not change its mind or verdicts in favor of those who shout slogans in front of the Palace of Justice.
The judges issue verdicts based on documents, arguments and evidences produced by parties to the dispute. They don’t succumb to street pressures regardless of their political positions. If these individuals want the judiciary to be run by the scepter of the experts of the political blackmail it will no longer be looked upon as the conscience of the nation.

There is no doubt that some in Kuwait blind imitate Egyptian parliamentarians — the parliamentarians who were crying for the blood of the former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak without trial or evidence taking advantage of the parliamentary majority.
We may see here in Kuwait some MPs of the so-called parliamentary majority demanding to execute ‘this’ or ‘that’ person without resorting to the judiciary just because that person merely disagrees with them.
Some of them have even issued statements threatening them of serious consequences pushing the country towards the jungle law.
The goals of the campaign initiated by the parliamentary majority are clear. It is an attempt to put pressure on the judiciary in the case of the so-called ‘Black Wednesday’ because some lawmakers who are involved have realized that their parliamentary immunity will not help them dodge the charges which have been filed against them - charges of breaking into the National Assembly and causing damage to public property.

All citizens are waiting for the verdict from the judiciary to unmask the Kuwaiti thugs.
Yes, the Kuwaiti judiciary is the conscience of the nation and its verdicts are issued in the name of HH the Amir. This conscience has never deviated from the right path. Its mission is to protect the society from the malpractices committed by some individuals and it will remain so until the end of time.
Moreover, the one who is right has to defend his right and not surrender this right to those who don’t deserve it.
Why don’t the lawmakers leave the authorities to do their work? Why do they interfere where it is not their business? Is it because they know and realize in advance that they have violated the law and now want to escape punishment?
