Firms face action over illegal hiring

Gulf Today - 13 June, 2012

The Ministry of Labour revealed that 4 violating institutions in Dubai were found employing 440 workers illegally.

These labourers held work permits issued from a free zone in another emirate, which allowed them to work only within this zone.

The violations were discovered during an inspection campaign that was carried out recently by the ministry at a construction site.

The MoL monitored violations committed by a company that was considered the key contractor in the project, which had 800 labourers working for them, including the offenders.

Issa Al Zarouni, director of the inspection department at the Ministry’s court in Dubai, pointed out that the ministry is currently taking the required action to refer files of these 4 institutions, which employed the workers illegally to the Public Prosecution.

He added that the inspection teams worked for hours to check labour cards of the 800 workers. They found that 440 of the workers carried labour cards issued from a free zone.

Al Zarouni noted that it is not allowed to have workers on the sponsorship of one company and be employed by another, even if this institution is a free zone company and owned by the employer who owns another company registered with the MoL.
