A British woman found herself facing a work ban for one year issued by the Ministry of Labour (MoL) for breaching her labour contract.

However she got an end of service letter from the employer and this shows that the institution terminated the contract.

The woman had filed a request with the MoL to cancel the ban that was issued by the ministry, pointing out that she didn’t violate any of the labour contract’s conditions, which she signed with the employer, who decided to terminate it three months after she began work.

She explained to the officials that she had to work for an institution that teaches ballet, although she holds a bachelor’s degree in the industries of hard mineral tools, which is a rare specialisation.

For its part, the MoL said that the official procedures showed that the woman was the reason behind her termination and therefore she deserved the administrative decision banning her from work for one year in the UAE.

On the other hand, the end of service letter that was issued by the employer said that the contract was terminated by the institution and not by the employee, the MoL added.

Consequently, the ministry referred the request and the documents to the legal department to probe the matter and take appropriate legal action.

The ministry confirmed that the request to cancel the labour card required a cancellation request signed by the two parties and stamped by the institution, in addition to the institution having the e-signature card.

The new regulations issued recently by the MoL exclude some cases from (work ban) and approve the transfer to another institution in the event of the employer breaching the conditions, eg failure to pay the employee’s salary for over two months.
