Abducted Saudi citizen in Yemen set free after tribal mediation

Kuwait News Agency - 11 June, 2012

A Saudi national kidnapped in Yemen for six months was set free Sunday after successful mediation by Bani Dhabian tribe with his abductors.

In a press statement, Yemeni Interior Ministry said the mediation was carried out by several influential figures of Bin Dhabian tribe who managed to persuade the kidnappers to release the Saudi national Nasser Abdulaziz Al-Mahri unharmed.

Following the release of Al-Mahri, Yemeni Interior Minister Abdulqader Mohammad Qahtan and Saudi Charge D'Affairs Hazaa Al-Mutairi met the tribal leaders who led the mediation efforts with the kidnappers.

During the meeting, Qahtan and Al-Mutairi expressed gratitude for the tribal leaders efforts to secure the release of the Al-Mahri.

Qahtan also warned those who carry out such acts, which tarnish Yemeni image abroad, that the state will not let them beat the rap.

He cautioned that the acts gravely impact the Yemeni economy.
