Dialogue helps in fast growth

Oman Daily Observer - 04 June, 2012

The Majlis has approved recommendations on tackling the problem of job-seekers, the issue of employees who stopped work at oil companies as they demanded improvement of their status and the significance of the 'policy of open doors' cited in the statement of His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers.

The discussion took place at the opening of the Majlis's 16th session of the first annual sitting (2011-2012) of the 7th term under the auspices of Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the Majlis Ash’shura. Al Maawali hailed the efforts made by the Majlis’s team that helped contain the problem of Omani workers who were in a sit-in at oil concession areas.

He pointed out that the meeting held on Saturday in the presence of team members and a number of officials and experts from different organisations succeeded in ensuring the return of the dismissed workers to their jobs. He added such efforts will continue in the coming days to restore normalcy without prejudice to the rights of either party.

As for the problem of job-seekers, it was taken up by a special committee which studied all difficulties involved at a time the numbers of job-seekers and their suffering were on the rise. The Majlis decided to submit its report on the recommendations to the Council of Ministers.

Commenting on the significance of the statement of HH Sayyid Fahd, Al Maawali noted that ensuring the elements of dialogue and open-door policy and enhancing co-operation the state’s institutions will help shape the future of this nation. They will also provide solid grounds for genuine exchange of opinions, the birth of constructive ideas and a practical approach to address the problems that may emerge.

The collaboration of all efforts will help in improving performance and in providing right environment for dialogue in the common interest of the state and its citizen, he said, adding that 'Our decisions or activities should revolve around this objective'.

As for HH Sayyid Fahd's statement on improving the status of pensioners under the social insurance system, Al Maawali said that Majlis Ash’shura considers this a significant step forward towards ensuring the stability of Omani employees working for the private sector and encouraging job-seekers to join this promising sector.

In his statement, HH Sayyid Fahd affirmed that senior officials of the government were directed to provide Majlis Oman (Council of Oman) with prompt data to help Majlis Addawla and Majlis Ash'shura to accomplish their missions.

Al Maawali added that the statement of HH Sayyid Fahd to the media on Saturday drew broad lines for the next stage and affirmed co-operation among the different legislative, audit and executive institutions in a bid to ensure the prospective goals of quality of work, justice and balanced distribution of development projects in all governorates of the Sultanate.
