In its issue on Monday, June 18, 2012, the UAE’s Etihad newspaper published a story about a 15-year-old girl who peacefully slept for several months. The girl, who suffered from a rare sleeping disease that affects one in one thousand people in the world, went to sleep in April and awoke in June, missing her GCE exams, according to the story that quoted the SUN newspaper, UK.

Here in Kuwait, we wouldn’t want our development plans, income diversification, environmental protection and economic openness programs to suffer politically from this rare sleeping disease.

Unfortunately, the constant tension and political disagreement that went as far as exchanging insults and personal slander among members of the parliament has hindered and delayed all future development plans that might substantially push Kuwait forward and steer everybody living in it to more prosperity. Alas, there is not even a glimpse of such hopes at a time when everybody is roaring with calls for change.

We want a limitless wake up that will continue advancing upon unified views from everybody, a move to a better future based on development and coping with modernity, and an organized living system that Kuwait and its people deserves. We don’t need this state of ‘beautiful’ sleep nor irritating insomnia or any other state of being.

The questions everybody in this country will always be haunted by are: Will the former tension creators, their groups and idols from the nullified parliament respond to such calls? Will they see glasses as half full or half empty? Will they ever remember the numerous financial and occupational benefits they and their families have achieved? Will they go on thinking that the public will not find out about such benefits?

Many of them have contributed to corruption and public fund losses that are spoken about in the press and cursed and used as a topic for loud propaganda day and night in parliament. The final question is: will they ever calm down, rest, stop annoying people, lying to them and when…..will they ever leave the parliament? — Al-Qabas
