Review Of Our Infrastructure!
Kuwait Times - 02 July, 2012 Author: Mohammed Ghareeb Hatem
Kuwait surpassed all GCC states in building a strong infrastructure back in the 1960s when it was known as ‘The Pearl of The Gulf’ due to its up-to-date streets, communities and urban planning.
Unfortunately, one can only speak bitterly and sadly nowadays, despite the financial affluence and abundance created by soaring oil prices over the few past years that have not yet affected the infrastructure. The government, for instance, is concerned with ranches and farms and forgets about the eighth ring road and linking new cities, namely Al-Metla’ and Sabah Al-Ahmed, with a grid of expressways.
Further, the traffic problem we have been suffering from is all because of the municipality and the municipal council and its resolutions since, instead of tending to urban structure and planning, the council became a temporary step in reaching the parliament. In this regard, one can but ask ministers, namely the minister of municipal affairs, if it was ever possible that very large investments and residential towers could have been built in Nugra, Slamiya, Hawalli, Farwaniya and Khaitan without building proper car parks underneath?
This can only show that nobody cares about this country and that it is being run haphazardly, while politicians are only concerned with politics and the determination yard on the one hand, and the government is only concerned with Beshts (Cloaks), prestige, receptions and opening ceremonies, on the other.
None of the ministers ever bothered to pay a field visit to any of the projects or areas. None of them bothered to go on a sudden visit to observe his own ministry staff or shifts. They never thought of conferring with young employees and syndicates, unless a strike was underway.
What a pity! What are we doing to this precious diamond that represents the future of our children? Where will Kuwait be like one hundred years from now? It’s a shame that one of the richest countries has no integrated universities or hospitals.
There is no proper recruitment or training for young employees, there is no proper qualification for staffs and human resources in various administrations and ministries, nobody is committed to working hours, there is a high percentage of absences and medical leaves, there is a state of chaos and lack of productivity that all make one sadly remember the days of the late sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem, May Allah have mercy on his soul! — Al-Watan |
