Abu Dhabi, 25 July 2010 (WAM) - Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has completed its UAE recruitment process and has approved the hiring of 212 new teaching staff and school specialists from a pool of 18,000 applicants to work in the three educational zones of Abu Dhabi Emirate in preparation for the coming school year. This UAE-based recruitment effort has been designed to provide schools with qualified educators, teachers and school specialists with the capability to drive the education reform agenda of the Emirate. As part of an active initiative to increase the quality of school teachers, ADEC is currently undergoing an additional recruitment drive to attract highly qualified educators from abroad; the results of this recruitment effort will be announced in the coming weeks.

Almost half of the new candidates are Emirati, with 102 UAE citizens 110 non-UAE citizens being offered positions in Abu Dhabi schools. The new school staff members include Arabic, English, Islamic studies, math, IT, geography, geology, physics, biology, and art teachers, as well as social workers, psychologists, lab specialists, kindergarten teachers, and trained special education teachers.

ADEC’s Executive Director of School Operations Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri said: "This recruitment effort falls in line with the implementation of ADEC’s 10-Year Strategic Plan which requires teachers to be suitably qualified to provide our students with the best educational services. In order to provide a world-class education we must have capable teachers who have been trained in a diverse range of teaching methods, and who understand the importance of tailoring education to suit the needs of individual students."
The applicant interview and screening process was conducted by a group of local and international educational experts, and was based upon ADEC’s teacher qualification standards, and an understanding of ADEC’s curriculum. ADEC’s standards require that all newly appointed teachers have obtained a Bachelor’s degree with high standing, in addition to a teaching qualification. In addition, expatriate teachers must have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
All approved candidates must coordinate with their respective educational zones in order to complete their employment procedures within one month of the approval date.
