UAE-India trade relationship hailed

Gulf Today - 17 August, 2012

Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Education and Scientific Research on Wednesday evening noted that India has achieved a fundamental, indispensable role in the global economy and has also improved the well-being of its immense population.

The minister at the same time disclosed that the UAE and India has for a long time enjoyed cordial and bilateral relationship dating back thousands of years.

He added that the friendship has benefited the peoples of both countries and has also contributed to regional progress and stability.

The minister was the speaking during the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), event to celebrate the 65th anniversary of India’s Independence Day.

The function was also attended by MK Lokesh, the Indian Ambassador to UAE along with a cross section of diplomatic corps, and the business community from the UAE, among other distinguished guests.

“We share many experiences and many common interests and aspirations. Together, our two countries have developed very successful traditions of mutual understanding and constructive co-operation,” said the minister.

India, the minister noted has persisted as the world’s largest democracy intent on recognising the voice of each one of its citizens.

He mentioned one of the famous quotes of India’s founder leader Jawaharlal Nehru “And so we have to labour and to work, and to work hard, to give reality to our dreams. Those dreams are for India, but they are also for the world, for all the nations and people are too closely knit together today for any one of them to imagine that it can live apart”.

Because India has followed its dream and believed in the necessity of an indivisible world, it has prospered and taken its place naturally in our current global economy, noted Nahyan.

“And you, Indian residents of the UAE, especially will identify a similar phenomenon in this country. For it has been our great fortune in the UAE that our country’s founder, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan, was a highly successful leader”, Nahyan said.

His wise vision and historic leadership have allowed our country to become a positive force for regional development and global cooperation, and for the peaceful resolution of conflicts around the world, he added.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahayan continues with that vision and ensures that the UAE is a country that welcomes people from around the world, that supports international business, and that reaches beyond its borders in a spirit of global cooperation, said Nahyan.

He said that the well-being of India can be measured in many ways besides its ever-growing economic strength. For example, every nation must be attentive to the social well-being of its people.

Nahyan further said that India should take special pride in its resolve to improve the quality of life for its entire population.

Also speaking during the same event, Dr Bharat Butaney, President, IBPC, Dubai, disclosed that India has achieved phenomenal economic success and its stunning and meteoric rise may very well qualify it to be called an economic superstar amongst its peers.

“Our great nation has indeed taken many significant giant strides and achieved unparalleled milestones by crossing virtually insurmountable barriers,” said Dr. Bharat. Dr Bharat added that looking at the non-oil trade rate, India has become the biggest trading partner of UAE.

“We at IBPC are firmly committed to fostering these ties between the two countries, facilitating trade between India and UAE and further strengthening the bilateral trade relations between the two nations,” he said.

Kulwant Singh, IBPC Secretary said that the friendly ties between India and UAE are being further strengthened by the growing economic and trade relations between the two nations. We are extremely delighted to note that the relationship is getting stronger by day by day, he said.

“On this 65th anniversary of India Independence we take this opportunity to thank the Government of the UAE and its leaders for their gracious support and continued commitment of friendship with India,” said Kulwant.
