Alba has begun the second part of its Heat Stress Management Programme for August.

The programme, which was successfully launched last year, defines the accountabilities of each management level in preventing heat stress, sets guidelines in advising new recruits and provides measures for applying procedures and practices without any deviation.

It also includes heat level indicators and provides a daily heat stress index with practical tips on how employees can protect themselves.

Co-ordinators from Alba's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department along with personnel from the Alba Health Care Centre were closely involved in conducting a series of heat stress awareness sessions for Alba's employees across all departments from May 22 to June 28.

"The summer months can be most challenging because of the extremity in weather conditions," said chief executive Laurent Schmitt.

"Monitoring heat stress levels, thus, enables us to stay a step ahead and adopt preventive measures against any possible emergency, before it could occur. This programme is being introduced for the second consecutive year and we are confident once again of its success.

"Alba maintains safety awareness campaigns throughout the year, and this is accomplished through the weekly Monday safety hours, five-minute safety talk before each shift, or the annual HSE Week for all the departments."
