Qatar Duty Free launches summer promotion

Gulf Times - 17 July, 2012

Qatar Duty Free has announced a Summer Surprises Promotion for passengers departing from, or transiting through Doha International Airport (DIA) until August 31.
Customers who spend QR500 or more on duty free purchases will automatically be eligible for a raffle draw to win shopping vouchers worth $ 10,000, $ 5,000 and $ 1,000.

In addition to shopping vouchers, customers arriving in to Doha will receive a 15% discount coupon, which can be used towards purchases at arrivals Duty Free within the airport or on their return to Doha.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar al-Baker said: “We are entering the peak holiday season and the busiest time of the year for travel when a great number of international passengers depart or transit through Doha International Airport.

“The promotion we have embarked upon is an added value bonus for holidaymakers and business travellers during the busy summer travel period. We hope passengers from around the world will take advantage of this excellent promotion that gives them a chance to win exciting shopping vouchers.”

Duty Free senior vice-president Keith Hunter said: “For the first time, we have included a special incentive for Doha residents as a ‘welcome back’ offer, where they can also get an exclusive discount coupon for purchases at arrivals Duty Free.

“Over the last few months we have made considerable changes in our retail shop layout at Doha International Airport and added some exciting brands across various categories, including watches, confectionery, fashion and fragrances.

“We truly understand the requirements of our customers and look forward to welcoming them at Qatar Duty Free. In what can be termed as one of the first in the world, Qatar Duty Free also accepts Qmiles, the airline’s award-winning frequent flyer loyalty programme as a form of payment towards Duty Free purchases. Customers can use their Qmiles or a combination of cash and Qmiles for all their Duty Free purchases.

“Duty Free also holds regular customer promotions of the highly successful and popular $ 1mn cash raffle and luxury car draw. All our promotions continue to draw huge crowds of shoppers and we are confident that the Summer Surprises Promotion will receive an even greater response,” said Hunter.

Qatar Duty Free operates within the departures, arrivals, VIP terminals and premium terminal of Doha International Airport. It also operates an outlet at Doha port for a growing number of passengers arriving and departing the State of Qatar by sea.
Qatar Duty Free has enjoyed consistent double digit growth year on year and is now the second largest Duty Free operator in the Middle East.

Qatar Duty Free offers a wide assortment of Duty Free products across various categories. A key part of its strategy is to offer something for every passenger profile and to make Duty Free shopping a memorable experience.

In its newly-developed promotional area on the first floor at Doha International Airport, Qatar Duty Free offers passengers exciting promotions, gifts with purchases and personal attentive services.

With the New Doha International Airport set to open very soon, the Qatar Duty Free team is already working on creating over 25,000sq m of world-class retail space, which will include exclusive branded boutiques and products to cater to passengers from all walks of life.
