Oman second best trade destination in Arab region

Oman Tribune - 04 July, 2012

The Sultanate obtained the second place at the Arab level in the Global Enabling Trade Report published by the World Economic Forum on its website.

The Sultanate, which came 25th at the world level with 4.86 points, jumped four positions from 29th place in 2010.

At the Arab level, the Sultanate came after the UAE while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) came third followed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, Jordan and Tunisia.

Singapore topped the international ranking that includes 132 countries followed by Hong Kong, Denmark, Sweden, New Zeeland and Finland.

The Global Enabling Trade Report is published annually since 2008 by the World Economic Forum. At the core of the report is the Enabling Trade Index which ranks countries using data from different sources including the World Economic Forum’s Executive Opinion Survey, the International Trade Centre, the World Bank and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

The Enabling Trade Index measures the factors, policies and services that facilitate the trade in goods across borders and to destination and is made up of four sub-indexes that include: market access; border administration; transport and communications infrastructure; and business environment.

The indicator is an important tool in evaluating the performance of countries in creating trade enabling environment and improving it.
