Experts have hailed as a major success several Sultanate-wide water and electricity saving campaigns launched in recent times and urge continued initiatives to develop and deepen energy-saving culture.
Several campaigns launc-hed by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW), Rural Electricity Company, Mazoon Electricity Company, and Electricity Holding Company among others to eliminate wasteful use of water and electricity have been very effective in promoting the Sultanate’s energy saving culture.
Aimed at promoting rational consumption of electricity and water, the two very vital resources of daily life, these campaigns have helped develop considerable awareness among the cities as well as rural areas, say experts.
In these campaigns, experts in face-to-face meetings with people in different residential and workplace areas explained how electricity is produced, how desalinated water is produced, what is the cost of production, subsidy involved and huge benefits for users and the nation as a whole from a rational use of electricity and water.
According to experts, one kilowatt of electricity per hour costs 70 baisa while the government charges only 10 baisa from individuals and 20 baisa from commercial establishments.
The authorities have the obligation to educate the people about the efficient and rational ways of using electricity and water and reducing bills because the consumption goes up too much during the summer and much of it is because of reckless usage.
