QE market capitalisation falls   

The Peninsula - 15 June, 2012

Qatar Exchange index lost 63.63 points (0.77 percent) last week when the bourse closed at 8,252.42 points yesterday. The trading value decreased last week by 16.88 percent to reach QR1.14bn compared with QR1.37bn the previous week. Of the 42 listed companies, 16 ended this week higher while 25 fell and one remained unchanged.

The trading volume decreased by 24.55 percent to reach a little over 46 million shares, as against 61 million the previous week, while the number of transactions rose by 4.98 percent to reach 19,737 as compared to 18,801 transactions the previous week. The market capitalisation fell by 0.33 percent to reach QR444.45bn last week as compared to QR445.93bn at the end of previous week.

The banking and financial services sector led trading value last week accounting for 24.93 percent of the total, followed by industrial sector (23.36 percent), the transportation sector (16.41 percent), and the real estate sector (14.46 percent). The banking and financial services sector led the trading volume last week accounting for 26.17 percent of the total, followed by real estate sector (23.04 percent), the industrial sector (14.91 percent) and the transportation sector (12.22 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led the trading number of transactions last week accounting for 27.66 percent of the total, followed by the industrial sector (16.13 percent), the consumer goods and services sector (15.71 percent) and the transportation sector (15.26 percent).
