Qatar’s infrastructure leaders begin week-long US tour

The Peninsula - 09 December, 2009

A delegation of Qatari infrastructure leaders has begun a week-long tour to the United States as part of plans to develop a smart infrastructure system in Qatar.

The group was to announce several mega projects in architecture and design, road construction, resorts, and water-related projects during a business roundtable held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.

Organised by the US Embassy in cooperation with the US Chamber of Commerce, US-Qatar Business Council, National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, Bilateral Chamber of Commerce, and Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the seven-day visit includes roundtable discussions, delegate presentations, networking opportunities and one-on-one consultations with US firms, both in Washington, D C and Florida.

“The US-Qatar Business Council is pleased to host the delegation of smart infrastructure leaders from Qatar to Washington. We expect this to be a very productive week, as we connect the delegates with American companies, experience and technical expertise. The Government of Qatar is committed to developing the country into a major player across all of its industries.

We look forward to further enhancing economic and business relationships between the United States and Qatar through the establishment of long-term projects and investments,” said Ambassador (Ret.) Patrick Nickolas Theros, President and Executive Director of the US-Qatar Business Council.

The delegation is comprised of directors and senior executives from the Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning, Ashghal (Public Works Authority), Qatar Projects Management, Dohaland, Qatari Diar, and BARWA Building Materials the key companies, real estate funds, and government agencies responsible for driving the mega projects that support development of Qatar’s integrated infrastructure.

The tour is an opportunity for the Qatari delegation to learn about the United States’ smart infrastructure system, including best practices from industry and government organisations. Delegates will have the opportunity to connect with prospective US suppliers in design, construction and engineering, as well as manufacturers of building products, ICT, and construction equipment. The visit also explores opportunities for US companies to participate in Qatar’s infrastructure projects.
