GCC FMs hold emergency meeting

Gulf Times - 13 August, 2012

The Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member states held an emergency meeting in Jeddah yesterday evening under the chairmanship of Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al- Saud.

HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani led Qatar’s delegation to the meeting.

The closed-door meeting discussed a range of regional issues among them is the crisis in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Arab League has postponed a meeting of Arab foreign ministers scheduled for yesterday to discuss the Syria crisis and to select a replacement for Kofi Annan, the United Nations-Arab League envoy, and would set a new date.

Deputy Arab League chief Ahmed Ben Helli told Reuters in Cairo the meeting was delayed because of the minor operation undergone by Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.

The royal court said on Saturday that he had undergone a successful operation to relieve an intestinal obstruction.
