Scholars hail Qatar's support for Syrian revolution

The Peninsula - 10 August, 2012

Scholars and Sheikhs of Syria, who took part in the two-day seminar titled ‘support for Syrian people... a religious and national duty’, have praised the substantial support provided by Qatar to the revolution of the Syrian people since its inception to alleviate their suffering.

Addressing a news conference held at the close of the seminar, organised by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), the Syrian scholars and sheikhs appealed to the international community, the world conscience and the Arab and international parliaments to take strong action to support the revolution to protect the Syrian people from the oppression of the regime until a clear victory is achieved, describing the Syrian regime’s practices as a real disaster requiring urgent intervention to remove it.

They reviewed the major tragedies experienced by the people including killing, siege, destruction of homes, bombing and attacks which affected women, children, the elderly and youths, demanding the international community to heighten its efforts and provide the revolution with arms and other necessities to protect civilians and stop the machine of tyranny that the regime uses to kill its own people.

The scholars warned the regime against resorting to using chemical weapons after it practiced all forms of killings, destruction and devastation against the people just because they demand freedom. They also called for the transfer of the wounded for treatment abroad and the establishment of field hospitals for treatment of the wounded at home.

The speakers, meanwhile, noted that the people of all categories co-exist peacefully ruling out of an imminent sectarian war.

They stressed that the regime is falling apart for several reasons, which include the splits in its ranks and among those close to it, saying the regime is in its last days and will leave soon to become the revolution an important part of human history.

The scholars confirmed that the position of Shariah scholars and sheikhs of Syria forbid the participation in any of the existing institutions of the regime at political, military and diplomatic levels, except for aspects of service and food provision.
