Saudi aid to be delivered through Jordan

Arab News - 02 August, 2012

Around 40 aid trucks have been prepared to drive from three cities in Saudi Arabia to Mufraq camp located in the north of Jordan, carrying around 20 tons of household items and food supplies under Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’ Syrian Revolution Drive.

Prince Ahmed, interior minister and general supervisor of the initiative, ordered the conduct of the first aid drive, adding: “The drive prioritized sending the first batch to meet the needs of the Syrian families during Ramadan, and coordinating with the humanitarian sides in Jordan to start the distribution by the beginning of next week.”

It was emphasized that the propulsion of the first aid drive is continuing to the locations of the Syrian refugees in neighboring countries through the trucks full of household items. The prince pointed out that they still take donations on their private banking accounts, besides other donations at the safety warehouses for the National Saudi Drive in Riyadh. So far, the financial contributions have reached $ 108 million.

The warehouses are receiving the supplements and household items and classify them in Riyadh, with tons of dates, flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil and clothes already being collected. “One of the things they made sure was the validity of food, excluding anything that expires sooner than nine months,” said Yousuf Al-Rahmah, coordinator of the donation. Al-Rahmah also pointed that the main direction for the donations would be Mufraq camp in Jordan. He affirmed that some donations would be transported by sea when it’s hard to reach them by land.

Al-Rahmah added: “Some of the items that need to be cold were not sent, for there were deals with the donation companies to keep them until we transfer them from the warehouses to the refugee areas. The main items, such as rice, sugar, cooking oils, flour, dates, canned foods, juices and milk will be sent directly.”
