Saudi campaign concludes by raising more than USD 72 mln for Syrians

Kuwait News Agency - 28 July, 2012

The Saudi Arabian national fundraising campaign to support the Syrians concluded its fifth and last day, raising more than 271 million Saudi Riyal (more than USD 72 million).

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, on Saturday, that the five-day campaign was called for by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz; it encouraged Saudi citizens and residents to support the people of Syria as they face prolonged suffering at the hands of their own government.

The campaign supervisor, Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, lauded all efforts behind the success of this humanitarian aid. He noted that the national campaign is currently working on delivering these donations to the Syrian people.

King Abdullah donated more than 20 million SR (USD 5 million) to the fund while Crown Prince and Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud gave more than 10 million SR (USD 2.5 million).

Large quantities of in-kind donations, including foodstuffs, medicines, medical appliances, clothes, tents, blankets and jewelry were also collected.
