Iranian, Syrian senior officials meet on cooperation

Kuwait News Agency - 04 July, 2012

Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili received here on Tuesday visiting Syrian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad Al-Lahham to discuss the latest developments of the crisis in Syria.

Addressing a joint press conference with Al-Lahham after the talks, Larijani said the two countries share the view that the reforms in Syria be carried out through neither explosions, nor weapons nor foreign interferences.

Iran supports the track of reforms adopted by the Syrian government to realize the aspirations of the people, he said.

All countries in the region should have a democratic structure but attention should focus on the plots being hatched by certain powers to undermine the Syrian government which stood against the Zionist regime, Larijani pointed out.

He hailed the talks with his guest as positive, voicing hope that Syria will be able to restore calm and stability as early as possible.

On his part, Al-Lahham who arrived here earlier today said his visit aims to brief the Iranian leaders on the latest development in his country and expand the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

During his visit, Al-Lahham is scheduled to meet President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad to discuss a range of bilateral, regional and international issues.
