Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger on Thursday expressed grave concern about the increasing armed attacks against aid workers in Syria.

Following his talks with Kristalina Georgieva - EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, Spindelegger said humanity, neutrality, and independence must stay as higher principles that organize humanitarian aid, stressing importance of delivering humanitarian aid to those who are in need in Syria without barriers.

He added that the international community has sought, since the start of Syrian crisis, after establishing tunnels for humanitarian aid, noting that it has not been able to attain that.

On her part, Georgieva shed lights on "dramatically deterioration" of situation in Syria and other areas in the world, pointing out that up to one million children in Yemen are suffering from food shortage.

She announced allocation of EUR five million to face starvation crisis, revealing at the same time capability of allocating EUR 123 million for attaining food security, which would contribute in attaining peace in the entire region.
