Charity to help needy families: Qatar

On the directives of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, who is also chairman of the Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani Charity, a schedule of charity activities for Ramadan has been announced.

Saeed al-Hajiri, charity’s chief executive officer, said that more than 2,500 needy families in Qatar will be provided with monetary help and provisions. The beneficiaries include Qataris and expatriates among whom many are widows, divorcees, orphans, sick, aged and disabled besides wives of persons serving prison terms. All of them have been registered with the charity after scrutiny and receive aid all through the year.

The provisions to be given to them include rice, flour, macaroni, chicken, corn oil, sugar, tomato puree, tea and dates. The quantity of these items will be double of what was given last year. And it will be delivered by the charity staff to the aged and to those who do not have the means to reach the office.

Thousands of people will be hosted with Iftar meals everyday at many locations in special tents to be set up in Doha and the outskirts including Al Khor, Semaisima, Industrial Area, Abu Hamour and Zakhira. There will also be lectures by eminent scholars before Iftar at selected locations. They will include scholars from Arab and non-Arab countries for the benefit of the non-Arab expatriate communities in Qatar.

Arrangements have also been made to deliver Iftar to many needy families in their homes.
As many as 25,000 copies of the Qur’an and a similar number of selected Surahs (chapters) of the Qur’an for free distribution in mosques and societies.

The charity has already dispatched more than 25 tonnes of provisions to Yemen for distribution among the poor and needy through the al-Islah Society of Yemen.
