UN envoy renews support to Yemen

Kuwait News Agency - 05 July, 2012

UN Envoy for Yemen Jamal bin Omar said on Wednesday the international community will continue supporting Yemen in its efforts to restore security and stability and overcome the challenges of the current stage.

Bin Omar hailed, during his meeting with Yemeni Minister of Interior Abdul-Qader Qahtan, the successes made by the security services in combating terrorism and tackling the challenges of the current stage.

He affirmed that security is the mainstay of development and a prerequisite for a successful national dialogue, SABA news agency reported.

On his part, Qahtan briefed the UN envoy on the achievements made by the security and military forces in fighting against the terrorist organization of al-Qaeda in Abyan and Shabwa provinces as well as hunting and arresting its cells in the capital and other provinces.

The minister also pointed to the efforts of the military affairs committee to restore security and remove all armed manifestations in the capital city.

The two men reviewed the steps taken to implement the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative, particularly in the areas of security and the actions made to combat terrorism and reinforce the security and stability of the country.
