UN to continue to provide support for elections in Yemen

Yemen News Agency - 10 June, 2012

Director of the UN's Electoral Assistance Division Craig Jenness expressed on Saturday readiness of the United Nations(UN) to provide more support for the next electoral stages in Yemen.

This came during a meeting gathered the UN's official with Chairman of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) Judge Mohamed al-Hakimi.

The meeting was devoted to discuss and review the needs of the SCER during the next stage and the United Nations' contribution in this aspect.

Judge al-Hakimi briefed Jenness on the tasks carried out by the Commission during the preparatory stages for the presidential election.

Al-Hakimi thanked the efforts exerted by the UN in supporting the elections, hoping the UN continued support to the SCER so as to enable it to complete its tasks successfully.

In the meeting, the two sides touched upon several topics related to the electoral affairs and the tasks assigned to the SCER during the next stage and in particular the Commission's options on the electoral register.
