US President Donald Trump "robustly and greatly" supports Iraq, the American ambassador to the country re-affirmed on Thursday.
A statement released by the Iraqi Government said Ambassador Douglas Silliman and Lieutenant General Stephen J. Townsend, commander of the international coalition forces in Iraq, held a meeting with Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi, discussing the battle for Mosul, namely latest advance by the regular forces in the city.
Ambassador Sillimian re-affirmed Washington's continuing backing for Iraq in the war against the so-called Islamic State, praising performance of the Iraqi forces on the fields of operations.
His remarks came against backdrop of a recent executive order by President Trump, barring visas for Iraqis to travel to the US.
Iraqi government forces, along with loyal paramilitary forces, have been engaged in a wide-scale operation to wrestle Mosul from the IS.
