GCC condemns attack on UAE envoy to Afghanistan

Khaleej Times - 11 January, 2017

The Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, condemned on Tuesday the terrorist attack on the Kandahar guesthouse in Afghanistan in which the UAE Ambassador Juma Al Kaabi, a number of Emirati diplomats and the governor of Kandahar were wounded.

GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani deplored the attach as a cowardly, terrorist act which violates human and ethical values and principles.

Al Zayani expressed the GCC's solidarity with the UAE and Afghanistan, adding that the heinous crime came at a time when the UAE ambassador was undertaking an official humanitarian mission as part of the UAE's efforts to implement development projects for the benefit of the Afghan people.

The State of Qatar has condemned and denounced the heinous attack on the guesthouse of the governor of Kandahar, which resulted in the injury of Juma Al Kaabi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Afghanistan and a number of Emirati diplomats.

"The State of Qatar condemns this criminal act which aims to destabilise security and stability in Afghanistan, and it affirms its solidarity with the UAE and its people," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, quoted by Qatar News Agency, QNA.

Bahrain too condemned the attacks and wished a speedy recovery to those injured and hailed the significant humanitarian efforts being made by the UAE for the development of Afghanistan.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain affirms its full solidarity with the UAE as it continues its efforts to establish peace and security at regional and international levels. It also emphasised its stand with friendly Afghanistan in its fight against all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, carried by Bahrain News Agency, BNA, on Tuesday.

The statement reiterated Bahrain's principled position against terrorism regardless of its motives and justifications and called for mobilising regional and international efforts to eradicate the dangerous phenomenon that threatens countries of the world.

Jordan strongly condemned the terrorist attacks. According to state news agency, Petra, State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesman, Muhammad Al Momani, voiced the government's solidarity with the governments of the UAE and Afghanistan in their fight against terrorism and extremism.

The minister reiterated Jordan's rejection of such terrorist attacks which target the security of nations and innocent people.
